Development Services is a resource for homeowners, businesses, designers and contractors. The goal of our staff is to help our customers build safe, healthy and sustainable buildings that comply with applicable codes and regulations.

We see ourselves as an integral part of each project team and are committed to establishing positive working relationships with our partners, while focusing on problem solving and delivering exceptional customer service.

Our Commissions and Committees

Development Services staff supports three appointed bodies at the City of Palm Desert:

• Planning Commission
• Architectural Review Commission
• Resource Preservation and Enhancement Committee

Building & Safety: Responsible for the implementation and enforcement of City and state codes relating to the construction, remodeling, alteration, repair and demolition of buildings.

Code Compliance: Enforcement of the Palm Desert municipal code. This division also provides business licenses and regulates the City's short-term rental program. 

Land Development Engineering: Provide services related to development and ongoing activities in the City's public Right-of-Way. This includes plan review, permitting and traffic engineering services.

Permit Center: Combines the majority of the City's permitting and licensing into one convenient location. The Permit Center's mission is to help customers quickly achieve their goals while complying with the City’s regulations. 

Planning: Assist property owners, architects, and developers with their building projects and providing assistance with respect to State and local zoning and design efforts.
