City of Palm Desert
Home MenuBuilding and Safety
The Building and Safety Division is dedicated to providing the highest level of code compliance, inspection services, and plan review to every architect, engineer, developer, contractor, business, and property owner that resides or works within our community.
The Division strives to demonstrate fairness, equality, and the highest standard of professional ethics in providing our services while enforcing state construction laws and local ordinances.
The City of Palm Desert adopted its first building code in 1973. Any structure built since that date (with some minor exceptions) is required to have a permit issued before work is started. The specific adoption and amendments are listed in the Palm Desert Municipal Code.
Palm Desert City Hall is pleased to welcome people who wish to conduct business in person with City staff 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. If you prefer to continue to do business remotely with the Building Department, we encourage you to do so by calling (760) 776-6420 or sending an email.
Building Inspections
The City of Palm Desert uses a system called Etrak-it to manage inspections currently taking place. To review this portal and review which inspections the City is working on, please click this link. For more information about scheduling an in-person or virtual inspection, view our inspections page.
