Palm Desert takes pride in its parks and constantly works to improve its recreational facilities. The Parks and Recreation Department's highest priority is to meet the City’s goal of advancing the quality of life in Palm Desert’s neighborhoods by delivering consistent services, maintaining the safety and appearance of city parks and recreation facilities, and inspiring community pride.
We offer a diverse range of programming for all members of the community while maintaining and operating over 200 acres of park land, with more than twelve parks, two community centers, a state of the art Aquatic Center, and over 25 miles of multi-purpose trails! Our parks and facilities feature amenities to suit all interests including public art, community gardens, dog parks, rose gardens, an amphitheater, a variety of trails systems, sports facilities, community centers, playgrounds, pavilions and Aquatic Center - just to name a few!
The City partners with the Desert Recreation District to provide recreational programs and activities for all ages year-round. The District maintains an online registration page where you may obtain information and register for programs. Visitors can choose from a wide array of Palm Desert parks and recreation sites. Whether you're an avid hiker, sports enthusiast or sightseer, there's a Palm Desert parks and recreation spot just for you!
Civic Center Dog Park - Grand Reopening Celebration
Civic Center Dog Park is undergoing renovations and will be reopening in on November 25, 2024. Please join us on Monday, November 25 at 9:00 a.m. for a grand reopening of the dog park.
The following locations have Pickleball:
- Freedom Park: 8 courts, open play 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., lights go off automatically at 10:00 p.m., closed 2nd Friday of every month 5:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. for maintenance.
- Cahuilla Hills Park: Two tennis courts, lined for pickleball, open play.
- Palm Desert Community Center: classes available; indoor courts are available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., free with your facility use pass or $5/day drop in fee. Please visit the Desert Recreation District's website for more information or call (760) 568-9697.
The City of Palm Desert manages several dog parks. Each park has a section designated for large and small dogs. Small dogs are considered as weighing 25 pounds or less.
In addition to the City's dog parks, Homme Adams Park is a natural park with an off-leash dog area. For information on park hours, please visit our Sports and Activities page. Please keep dogs on a leash no longer than six-feet in length unless visiting one of the City's designated dog parks or off-leash areas.
