Applications for conditional use permits (CUPs) to establish new cannabis retail/dispensaries are no longer being accepted. The City’s Cannabis Ordinance establishes a maximum total of six (6) CUPs for retail cannabis businesses to operate in the City of Palm Desert. There are currently six (6) retail cannabis businesses in operation. Existing approved retail cannabis businesses that wish to amend their operations may require an amendment to their CUP and should contact the Palm Desert Planning Division for more information.

Per Ordinance 1416, the City adopted new zoning regulations which prohibit the following commercial cannabis businesses: cannabis testing and research laboratory, cannabis cultivation, cannabis delivery (except for existing legal storefront retailers), cannabis distribution, and cannabis manufacturing. Application requests to establish any of the prohibited uses will not be accepted by the Palm Desert Planning Division.
